• Bengali A has two different sounds
• First one is Open or Default Sound, alternately you can call it sharp sound, আইপিএতে ɔ (Open-mid back rounded vowel) চিহ্ন দিয়ে এই উচ্চারণটি বুঝানো হয়
• Consider the word ALWAYS
• Replace the first A with অ
• অLWAYS

• Second one is Closed or Modified Sound, or round sound that is identical to another vowel ও and ENGLISH SOUND O (Close-mid back rounded vowel)

Notes:

• Usually অ never comes at the end or middle of a word; It just sits at the beginning
• Q! 
• What do we write if the অ sound is ever placed somewhere in the middle or at the end?
• A! 
• Every Bengali consonant has an অ sound associated with it by default, so there is no need to give a separate অ sound after the consonant! That is why the letter অ is not found in the middle or at the end!
• If sometimes it becomes absolutely necessary to understand the sound অ, the sign ' may be used; It is not common, but is used in several dictionaries.
• Note that when the consonant is joined by another vowel (or consonant) the অ sound disappears and gives way to the surrounding sound.
• অ has no other form. It is always (as already mentioned usually sits at the beginning) written in the shape of an অ.
